Tutorial: Glitter Mosaic Nails Complete with Video

Alrighty, you asked and I shall deliver!  I've had a lot of people asking me how I do my Glitter Mosaic nails so I took some time last night to full document how to do it.  Be warned, there are a TON of pictures and even a time lapse video to follow.

Step 1.  Gather your supplies.  I'm using Essie Ridge Filler as a base coat, Rimmel Black Satin as my base colour, a pot of hexagonal gold glitter from ebay for the glitter and a toothpick.

Step 2.  Add your base coat and two coats of your base colour.

Step 3.  Spread out some glitter on something.  The pieces can stick together so the more you spread it out, the lesser the chance of that happening.

Step 4.  Add a third coat of base colour, grab your toothpick, lick or wet it somehow and pick up your first piece of glitter.  I like to start at the top left corner.  Make sure the piece is lined up so that there's a top and bottom.  Enlarge this picture, you should be able to see what I mean.

Step 5.  Add a full column of glitter down the side.  This will form the guide for the rest of the nail so make sure that the tops and bottoms line up.
Step 6.  Start on the next column.  Fit the next piece into the indentation.

Step 7.  Finish that column, fitting each piece in.  They should all jigsaw together.

Step 8.  Next couple of rows.

Step 9.  Keep going, fitting each piece next to the last securely.  Add more top coat if you find the glitter isn't sticking.

Step 10.  Keep going!  See how a straight first column lets you build out the rest easily?

Step 11. MOAR

Step 12. Even MOAR

Step 13.  Nail done!  Don't worry if you have some pieces sticking over the top of your nail, we'll deal with them soon.

Step 14.  Do the same thing on your other nails.

Step 15. LOTS of top coat.  Seriously, like two thick coats.  Use drying drops after the second coat if you want it to dry faster.

Step 16.  Trim the extra glitter off your tips.  You're done!

TIME LAPSE!!
